The Hawaiian Ocean View Estates Subdivision (HOVE) is located on the slope of Mauna Loa in the Kau District on the southwest side of the Big Island. It is approximately 40 miles south of Kailua-Kona, the premier tourist spot on the island, and about 15 miles north of the town of Naalehu. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is a short one hour drive away. The village of Ocean View is just 10 minutes drive away and has several restaurants, Natural Health Food Store, small grocery stores, an ACE hardware, a few gas stations, a Laundromat, and Bed and Breakfast and vacation rentals. Facing west, the subdivision features great ocean views, and gorgeous sunsets. Many lots are covered in trees, while others are barren moonscapes created of past lavas flowing down the mountain. Most all lots are on catchment water, and waste disposal is via cesspools and septic systems. Much of the upper part of the subdivision is off the grid power and telephone. Many owners create their own power via wind-generators, and solar panels or gas generators.
HOVE has an active Community Association and a Road Maintenance Association.
Currently annual road maintenance fees are $90 per lot.
There are no requirements that an owner build on their property.
