Resolved Question: Please help me with your suggestions and advice?

I am asking this so I can help out my nephew. He goes to a junior college and his grades during last semester have not been up to par. He has lost his motivation because he doesn't like this college and feels that most people who attend it are "low lifers" - no offense-because my nephew leads a healthy life and apparently majority of attendants of this college behave in ways that stresses him out, e.g., are in to drugs and have tried to force him to buy drugs (thank god he's never done that), he is very ... I am asking this so I can help out my nephew. He goes to a junior college and his grades during last semester have not been up to par. He has lost his motivation because he doesn't like this college and feels that most people who attend it are "low lifers" - no offense-because my nephew leads a healthy life and apparently majority of attendants of this college behave in ways that stresses him out, e.g., are in to drugs and have tried to force him to buy drugs (thank god he's never done that), he is very creative and has unique ideas which when he brings up as part of class discussion, other students do not engage. That's why he calls them "low life" he wants to transfer to a junior college in san luis obispo, ca and finish his general education there then transfer to cal poly university in the same city. I understand why he feels the way he does between level of intellect, involvement, creativity is far superior in the junior college in san luis obispo, and at cal poly state university. I know this because I stayed with my brother a few years and have the same feelings that my nephew has; and he is very frustrated. I have also attended cal poly state university in san luis obispo, and know it provides an stimuting environment, and excellent curriculum that is motivating for students. I also for a year attended the same junior college my nephew is attending now. He told his dad he is so frustrated that he will move to san luis obispo, work, and support himself in every way. His dad has always provided financial and emotional support for both his children, and is now supporting them financially so they can concentrate on school and not to have to work. After discussing moving with his father, his father agreed to pay all his expenses when he transfers to junior college in san luis obispo. But told my nephew that he has to prove himself by doing very well this semester. He has done A level work in all his classes except one. For personal reasons i can't state, in this one class he has an F grade now because he has missed 7 quizzes, and there's only a month and a half till semester ends. He is getting depressed and so afraid because he wanted to get in the least a B out of this class. He talked to me today about it, and he has promised himself not to miss anything in this class and do well with remaining assignments, quizzes, tests so he can raise his grade to a C. This is very important to him. My suggestion to him was to go and talk to his professor and be honest about all the circumstance that has led to his F grade, tell him he will do anything, retake 14 tests, do a term paper on any topic his professor wants. May be his professor will see that he is really interested in education and doing well in his class. Sorry for the long question. PLEASE, PLEASE share with me what he can do to bring up his grade to at least a B if not higher. He is so worried about this that he has developed situational depression, and anxiety over this one class. PLEASE PLEASE SHARE YOUR SUGGESTIONS WITH ME. THANK YOU. Hi wicked mikey, Thank you for your answer. A bit more clarification: he suffers from anxiety attacks and insomnia which he is being treated by professionals. He missed seven quizes because his anxiety attacks were so bad, he could not leave the house. He is only 19 and is self conscious about his anxiety and insomina problems, so he would not want any of his classmates to know. He really really wants to do will in this class.. Would you give him a second chance to right his wrongs? He is in depression over this. Hi kennaamy, Thank you very much for your suggestions. I would definitely do that if I were in his situation. However, when I told him about your suggestion, he said "no, this college and I should be able to handle it myself" Maybe I just worry about him because doing well this semester is imperatively important. Thank you also for wishing him well. Close All
