ʻEwa Beach (IPA pronunciation: ['εvɑ]) is an unincorporated census-designated place (CDP) located in ʻEwa District and the City & County of Honolulu along the leeward coast of Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi. As of the 2000 Census, the CDP had a total population of 14,650.
The term "Ewa" means "Stray" in Hawaiian, it comes from the myth that one day the Gods were playing a game of 'ulu maika and while playing one of the "rolling stones" went astray and landed in an area the Gods than called that area Ewa for the stray 'ulu maika.

Resolved Question: Is Iroquois Point in Ewa Beach,HI still just military housing?
I moved to the mainland about 5 years ago, but i grew up in Ewa Beach. My father was in the military and we lived in Iroquois Point, which was military housing only. Before we had left there, I remember Barbers Point was bought by the city, and it wasn't just military anymore. A few years ago I heard about Iroquois Point was also going to be sold to the city, and made into local housing. Is this true? And has it happened?
