Voting Question: Fossil, Mineral, Rockhounding Collecting in WA state?
I just moved to Bellingham, WA and and wondering where the local rockhounds go to collect fossils, minerals, and rocks. I've heard there are Eocene plant fossils in the area, as well as decent jade and agate. Are there any spots/outcrops anyone knows of to collect? We have Mt. Baker in the back yard with the puget sound at our doorstep. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've been to Baker Lake up by Mt. Baker and stayed there a couple of times, but there were alot of people there and it didn't feel like camping. I would like to take a 3 day hiking trip wit my buds in Northern Cascades Nat'l Park and was wondering which trails/areas are less dense with hikers and tourists and if there are any loops so we wont have to backtrack once we hike in.
