Schenectady is the ninth largest city in New York State. The name "Schenectady" is derived from a Mohawk word for "on that side of the pinery," or "near the pines," or "place beyond the pine plains."

- 19 Jan 2009I've lived in Schenectady,and the surrounding area for the last 20+years!!! It is a great place to live, work and play. There are plenty of places to shop, bike, hike..ski many outdoor activities to enjoy here and nearby. It has 4 beautiful seasons that offer fantastic options for fun. We currently have a house in the upper union street area, we have enjoyed living here very much. My husband and I only commute approx. 10-15mins. to work. I would be happy to answer any questions.....
