I just found out that my girlfriend is pregnant with my child. We lived together for two years in a small mountain town while she was going to her two year school and then she got accepted to this great university to finish her studies so she is living there now, while I am trying to find a job nearby living where we used to live. I just found out that my girlfriend is pregnant with my child. We lived together for two years in a small mountain town while she was going to her two year school and then she got accepted to this great university to finish her studies so she is living there now, while I am trying to find a job nearby living where we used to live. Im done with school, and work for a bank right now two hours away from her. We love eachother and are both against her having an abortion, especially at this stage of our lives. She is 31 and I am 29. I can't tell my family yet because we are not married, and they are very very very very catholic. I can't tell my small group of friends that I sometimes hang out with because they are all eternal bachelors who would just poke fun and not be supportive at all. Other than those people, she is my only friend right now who I would want to talk to about this, but she's really worried too being far away from me and in school right now, so when we talk, I don't feel like its fair to bring up my own worries. I mean she's the one who actually has to have the kid and she's scared to death that I won't be able to find an adequate job out there to be able to move there and support them before the baby is due. The market stinks right now, and Im having a hard time getting interviews. It just seems like this is impossibly bad timing and everything is just really stressful right now. Im just kind of silently freaking out and I guess I just needed to scream out into the ether and hope somebody has some pearls of wisdom to impart. Thanks for listening peeps. Daddyo out. Wow, sensing some hostility out there.Listen people, I am well aware of the ramifications of this unexpected pregnancy and of my upcoming responsibilities as a dad.You can hold back on the "grow up" comments, I understand that I got in the game at a late age here, but this is pretty huge for me and I think that it is understandably so. It is also unexpected and I just found out yesterday, so try not to judge there people. Im sure you've all been floored by some life changing news at one time or another, so lets be real here. I don't need you to nudge me into adulthood, Im already there. I am concerned with what my parents think, because I love them and its very important to me that they are a part of my life and the life of my child. They did not approve of me moving in with her two years ago but I did it anyway because I wanted to do it and knew it was right. All I was looking for was maybe a few people who had similar experiences who could help me understand what to expect. Sheesh! Close All
