THANK YOU! Open Question: Did King Harper push through the Colombia trade deal as a gift to George Bush?
This deal has been signed against the wishes of the majority of the Canadian people--using the financial crisis as an excuse.

The Americans don't support this. Was this a ploy to put pressure on the US Congress to approve free trade with Colombia - a country with a deplorable human rights record and where labour leaders are routinely assassinated?
or was this just another example of the Harper dictatorship exploiting the economic crisis to push forward extreme right political policies that would otherwise never see the light of day?
And why are my questions getting posted to the American section when my settings are set to show Canadian questions only?
Rays Back. What a silly comment 4U to make. Perhaps you don't know it is all the same site. I only found the question after hunting for it when it did not appear in the Canadian list. It seems that by default, questions get posted to the "All English Questions" category. Is that how it works?
Your insult doesn’t bode well for your Country's image in the world. Perhaps instead of insult, you might be good enough to answer the question. Close All
Open Question: When Canadians were too lazy go get out and vote in November ....?
did they forget King Harper's public admiration for George Bush economic policy?
How successful was the Bush economic policy? Is it a good model for Canada to follow now?
And before you flame me. I did get out and vote and I want my vote back. I voted for the Harper dictators thinking they would not be able to inflict too much damage with a minority. I'm sorry - I miscalculated that the weakness of the opposition would give them a license to govern as if they had a majority.

‘To kill a Mockingbird’ by Harper Lee tells the tale of the fictional town of Maycomb, based in Alabama during the 1930s, following the experiences of a young girl named Scout as she matures. Her father, Atticus Finch, is a respected and intelligent man but the town’s people turn their back on him when he laws for a black man. This was considered a sin in Southern USA during 1930s. Scout and her brother Jem suffer cruel opinions of others. Harper Lee uses setting, characterisation and key incidents to show the reader how Scout matures throughout the novel.
‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ is set in the Deep South during the 1930s. This setting provides the backbone of one of the major themes – racism – as it was a major issue in Southern USA in the 1930s and still is today.
The book is written in first person, narrated by Scout as an adult, reflecting back on significant events of her childhood; however the main plot is written in the point of view of young Scout which is a naive and immature narrative by comparison. We discover near the start of the story that Scout is intelligent as, “... (She has) been readin’ ever since she was born, and she ain’t even started school yet,” and she is also a feisty young lady as she is involved in several physical fights with her peers throughout the novel. Scout is hot-tempered as she is upset easily, “My feathers rose again.” She does not fit in with her peers as she does not wear a dress like the proper ladies of Maycomb. Her Aunt Alexandra comments that Scout, “wasn’t supposed to do things that required breeches.” Scout clearly matures in her view of Mr Arthur (Boo) Radley. At the beginning of the novel the children have an obsession with Boo and have a naive – even cruel – view of the man. “(Boo) dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch.” The children create a play, re-enacting the story of Boo Radley as they know it and they also make several attempts to gain contact with him. As Scout matures she grows out of her obsession with Boo and by the end of the novel she has clearly learned some valuable life skills as she can take on her father’s advice to, “climb into his skin and walk around in it,” particularly in the case of Boo Radley as she understands that he was a good person who had given them, “two soap dolls, a broken watch and chain, a pair of good luck pennies and (their) lives.” Scout understands that Boo is a ‘mockingbird’ – he is a caring, innocent man, damaged by malice and evil.
A large part of the story is set in a courtroom at the trail of a black man named Tom Robinson. He accused of raping Mayella Ewell and although evidence shows that he is clearly innocent, he loses his case and is sentenced to death. Although Atticus is willing to fight to the bitter end for him, Tom is too scared and tries to make a bid for freedom resulting in his death as he is shot by a prison guard. Tom is another innocent man who is broken by cruelty. Scouts eyes are opened to the disgraceful people that could send an innocent man to his death on account of their biased views:
The one place where a man ought to get a square deal is in a courtroom, be he any color of the rainbow, but people have a way of carrying their resentments right into a jury box.
She learns that within mankind there is evil but also greatness and she retains her positive outlook on life and is not tainted by her experiences of hate, unlike Arthur and Tom. Scout explains her understanding of Tom’s unfair court case through the story of a book that Atticus is reads to Jem and Scout, ‘The Grey Ghost’. She explains how ‘stoner boy’ is wrongly accused of, “messin’ up their clubhouse,” and that his pursuers discover that he did not commit the crime but he was ‘real nice’.
