Two lots included in price.
The architectural style of our home is Southern Greek Revival. The two story front porch is supported by fluted, redwood columns which are 17 feet tall and 24 inches in diameter. The front door is surrounded by beveled, leaded glass side-lights and transom which cast rainbows across the foyer in late afternoon. As you stand in the
two-story foyer, you are greeted by a curving staircase and crystal chandlers. Looking to the left, you see a formal living room with a gas fireplace encased by a hand-carved mantle from France, which opens into a formal dining room with an antique table seating twelve or more. There is a pass-through butler's pantry that enters into a spacious, eat-in kitchen (with all new appliances) and floor length windows looking out onto a Koi pond, deck and swimming pool. Outside, the gazebo and surrounding gardens give way to a wooded second lot that gives privacy even in winter. Back inside, you continue into a den that spans the entire width of the home, giving views through floor length windows of the front and back yards. The den has wood paneled wainscoting, built-in book cases, a raised hearth, wood burning fireplace and a wet bar. From there you walk through a multi use room (for us it was an office) and into the master bathroom and bedroom. The huge master bedroom has a gas fireplace and a bay window which looks out over a formal garden. The master suite has lighted, walk-in closets and its own HVAC system which can be controlled independently of the rest of the house.
The laundry room is on the main floor and could also be used as a hobby room or second office which has its own exterior entrance.
You must return to the foyer to ascend the curved staircase to the second floor. There is an upstairs den with large windows looking over the Koi pond, deck and swimming pool below. There are four bedrooms upstairs, each with a private sink and access to a full bath. All four bedrooms have two lighted walk-in closets each and built-in bookcases. The upstairs has its own HVAC system and can be controlled independently.
This home has an upper level, double, oversize garage and a lower level double, oversize garage. Currently, half of the lower garage is an exercise room with a sauna. This room is partly underground and served as a storm shelter for us. What I love about this home is its understated elegance combined with casual comfort. Entertaining is fun here! The double, wooded lot makes this property private despite being located in the city. My home was a gathering place for my kids' friends and the pool was a great way to 'keep an eye on' middle school-age kids. And I loved the high school prom pictures on the curved staircase. This home is in a friendly neighborhood; it is convenient to shopping, entertainment, two major hospitals, several Senior Living establishments and has easy access to major roads. What a great place to raise a family!
